KOREAN WANTED FOR ROBBERY, INTERCEPTED AT NAIA - BI PASAY CITY, Philippines - The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said its officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) intercepted a departing South Korean passenger who is wanted in his country for kidnapping, beating, detaining, and extorting money from a compatriot two months ago. In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the passenger as 28-year-old Kim Yonghyun, who was encountered at the NAIA 3 terminal last June 3 as he was about to board a Cebu Pacific flight to Incheon. Tansingco said Kim was immediately apprehended after his name yielded a positive hit in the Interpol’s red notice list which is electronically linked to the BI’s derogatory database system. "Since he was departing to Korea, we subsequently allowed him to board his flight after informing our counterparts in Seoul about his impending arrival there. Thus, he was arrested upon his arrival at the Incheon airport where Seoul policemen were waiting for him,” the BI chief said. According to the BI-Interpol, Kim abducted and detained his victim at an undisclosed location in Cheonansi, South Korea last April 7. He allegedly demanded money from the victim, repeatedly punched the face, burned his body with cigarettes, and threatened to stab him with scissors. Kim then robbed the victims’ belongings, including his cellphone, bag and cash, and ran away. As a result, the victim suffered a ruptured eardrum, eye contusion, and burns that necessitated four weeks of medical treatment. Charges of robbery and physical injuries were later filed against Kim before the district court in Daejon City, South Korea which issued a warrant for his arrest last May 22. Kim has been included in the BI blacklist of undesirable aliens which perpetually bars him from re-entering the Philippines.
