Codex dots
A dot is ’s always-on personal in : it has its own computer and , keeps working between conversations and hands work to as tasks.
A dot keeps your work moving and gives the code to Codex
Give your dot a goal and it keeps track of the work, works out the next step and comes back with results or with decisions that need you — even while your computer is off.
What the name means
The product is called dots, and one of them is “a dot”. “ dots” is the SONUB menu name for using a dot together with Codex. A dot does not replace Codex: Codex writes and tests the , and the dot starts, steers and checks those Codex tasks.

Three ways a dot uses Codex
-
New cloud coding task
Runs in a environment you have already set up. Your computer can be off.
-
New local Codex task
Runs on a computer you connected to your dot. Keep it online with the app open.
-
Continue a Codex thread
Your dot follows up on an existing Codex thread and gives it new instructions.
Before you ask for coding work, create the Codex cloud environment (the and its setup) in Codex first — your dot cannot use an environment that does not exist yet. You can open any task it started to check progress or give instructions yourself.
You decide: do it alone, ask me first, or never
Before an action, your dot checks its rules
-
Do it alone
The “Take action without asking” rule — for routine steps you are happy with, such as sorting notes or updating a draft.
-
Ask me first
The “Ask before taking action” rule (or “Take action when you say so”) — for things like sending a message, deleting for good or installing .
-
Never — hand it to me
Block an action (“never send emails”) or choose “Hand off to you”. The most sensitive steps, such as changing a password or moving money, always stay with you.
Custom rules cannot switch off the built-in safeguards. Asking for a draft does not mean “send it” — an approval covers only what you clearly asked for.
Where to start your dot and who can use it now

Your dot
Starts work in Codex
Create your dot in one of these, then keep talking to the same dot on any device. From there it can start work in Codex and follow up on existing Codex threads.

Users aged 18 or older, outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK.
-
ChatGPT Business Premium
In supported ChatGPT regions, when the workspace is eligible.
-
ChatGPT Enterprise · Edu · Healthcare
A beta that is off by default — a workspace admin has to turn it on.
Your first dot is included in a Pro or Business Premium plan. Access can take several days to reach your account.
Chatting does not use your limits, the work it starts does
-
Chats with your dot
Do not count toward your ChatGPT usage limits.
-
Tasks your dot starts
Codex and ChatGPT Work tasks that your dot starts or manages count toward those products’ usage limits as usual.
Your plan also includes an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month after launch. A dot that starts many Codex tasks can use up your Codex limit, so tell it how much to do.
Safety tips for students
-
Only for ages 18 and up
Dots are not available to users under 18 yet. Learn how they work here, and ask a parent or teacher before you use any account.
-
Never type passwords in the chat
Use the secure sign-in form instead. Changing a password or moving money is always done by you.
-
Approve exactly
Say who, what and when. Approving one message does not let your dot contact people again.
-
Watch for hidden instructions
A web page, email or document can hide instructions that try to trick an agent ( injection). Dots have protections, but they do not remove the risk.
-
Review code before you merge
Dots and Codex make mistakes. Read the , run the tests and first so you can always go back.
-
Pause or reset
Pause your dot any time from its profile. Reset deletes its conversations, saved memories and scheduled tasks.
